From Leeds, The Pigeon Detectives bring their own spin on the current British Rock trend. They are yet another band that mixes rock with new wave beat. They will be playing SXSW this year and I hope to see them at The Cedar Street Courtyard showcase. Their new album "Emergency" comes out May 26th on the Leeds independant record label "Dance To The Radio."

These New Puritans

"What's your favorite number? What does it mean?" ... are the questions asked in the song "Numerology (AKA Numbers)" by the Southend, UK band These New Puritans. Their new album "Beat Pyramid" is exactly that, a stack of beat upon beat layered with very sharp rhythmic lyrics. New wave beats with house style electro stylings, These New Puritians will keep you dancing. Look for beat pyramid to be released in the US in late March, most likely on Domino Records. They will also be appearing at SXSW this year.

Yelle

French. Electro. Dance. Pop. Need I say more? Hailing from Saint-Brieuc, Bretagne, Yelle (Julie Budet) rose to fame after posting a song dissing a member of a Parisian boy band. She is currently opening for Mika on tour. If you like French electro pop, look no further than her full length debut entitled "Pop-up."

Sharon Jones And The Dap Kings

Ms. Sharon Jones brings back the soulful sounds of the sixties on her three releases on Daptone records. Daptone records is owned and run by the bassist of the Dap Kings, Bosco Mann. In October of 2007 they released their new full length album, 100 days, 100 nights. Hailing from Brooklyn, NY their live performance is one of the most energy filled shows you can see today. I saw them last year at SXSW and was amazed. Check out their other full length releases: "Dap Dippin with.." and "Naturally."

Foals

From Oxford, Foals aim to be one of the next big indie pop acts from Britian. From instantly danceable beats to math rock-esque keyboard parts their sound is very addictive. They have been releasing singles on Transgressive Records out of the UK. Their current single release is "Cassius." Look for a full length out this march. Unfortunately all of their music must be imported as they do not have a US label releasing their music as of yet.

Coin Op

Coin Op is an unsigned band from Brighton, UK. This band combines new wave beats, power riff guitars, with snarky Devo-esque lyrics. Check out these future dork-rock stars. I think they would fit in well on dim mak records or kill rock stars record label.
